The fascination with black eyelashes

When the new Blackness brand eyelashes reached our warehouse, a lively discussion immediately sparked:

“Why are black eyelashes the symbol of femininity?”

A look into the world of cartoons shows how deeply rooted this idea is.

Just think of Minnie Mouse – her feminine character was immediately emphasized by adding eyelashes to the same face of the actually male Mickey Mouse.

This phenomenon can be observed in countless other cartoon characters.

Eyelashes are, besides eyebrows, practically the only hairs that we not only keep for aesthetic reasons, but often even want to have more of.

Black eyelashes in particular are particularly popular with customers around the world – a fact that is well known to lash stylists.

But where does this fascination with black eyelashes come from if such a trend is not apparent to the same extent in hair color?

In this blog post, we get to the bottom of the enthusiasm for black lash extensions and show why they are so popular.

Of course, brown, light brown and colored eyelashes have become increasingly popular in recent years, but there is no denying that black eyelashes in particular make the hearts of lash lovers beat faster.

But why exactly is that so?

This is where human psychology comes into play, because whenever we find something beautiful, this decision is made unconsciously by our brain.

Black and full eyelashes are first and foremost a sign of health, as many diseases lead to eyelash loss. And as we know, we subconsciously perceive external signs of health as beautiful.

Examples include long hair, clear skin or white teeth.

In addition, scientists have discovered that black eyelashes in particular create a contrast that particularly emphasizes the whites of the eyes (sclera) and makes them shine.

Furthermore, black eyelashes particularly highlight the limbal ring.

The limbal ring is the inner ring of the iris. It is darkest in a woman's most fertile years and is therefore perceived as extremely attractive from an evolutionary psychological perspective.

As already mentioned, our brain decides what we perceive as beautiful based on evolutionary and partly sociological norms.

For example, we see pronounced facial features in men as particularly attractive. Following this logic, almost all beauty products try to emphasize and highlight natural female features.

For example, women use lipstick to highlight their lips from the area around the mouth.

Black eyelashes do practically the same thing as lipstick: they provide contrast, which in turn makes the eyes stand out.

And here you can see that this effect becomes even stronger the darker the lash extensions are.

The BLACKNESS brand has therefore completely dedicated itself to the topic of 'black eyelashes' and uses a special manufacturing process to produce what are probably the blackest eyelashes currently available.

However, he does not reveal how exactly the manufacturer arrived at this frighteningly dark result.

All that is known is that the eyelashes are packaged in a way that protects them from light so that they are not exposed to any light on the way from the factory to the client's eyes and so that they retain 100% of their blackness.

And the special surface structure ensures that light is absorbed and not reflected. This makes for particularly striking black eyelashes.

In an internal team survey, Blackness’ black lashes were consistently described as follows:

fuller”, “more intense”, “more noble” and “ eyes look even more feminine” , “ didn’t know that eyes could shine like that”

Of course, in most cases women who have their eyelashes extended want their beauty procedure to be noticed by others. It should be clear to everyone that black eyelashes are more suitable for this than a 'natural look' with brown eyelashes.
