Lash Extensions formen und effekte

Forms of eyelash extensions

In the lash extension industry, there are many different shapes (effects), curls, lengths, and even colors.

In this blog post we want to explain which shapes (effects) exist in lash extensions and how you can choose the look for each client individually.

The shape in lash extensions is a template the stylist follows, assigning different lash lengths to each area of the eye depending on the chosen effect.

You may have noticed that at the start of a session something is written on an eye patch before the lash extension begins? That is the template for the chosen effect.

Do not confuse the template with the extension technique!

You can, for example, perform Classic Lash Extensions at a 1:1 ratio or with a lot of volume. The same applies to all other effects.

Which lashes do we recommend for the most beautiful shapes?
Blackness Lashes! Because the curls of Blackness lashes are designed to look as natural as possible on the eye.

All curls have a natural softness that gives any lash set an incredibly elevated look.

What does volume mean in lashes?

Volume refers to the number of lashes used to form a fan.

For example: 2-D means 2 single lashes, 3-D means 3 single lashes, and so on.

How do I get the best shape?

Each lash brand has different curls and lashes. Depending on the quality and curvature of the curls, the end results always look a bit different.

For the best results, we recommend Blackness lashes, as these curls build on the standard curl but have been further refined.

This leads to incredibly good-looking results, no matter which shape you choose!

What shapes of lash extensions are there?

1. Natural (Natural Shape)

In this style of lash extension, the length of the artificial lashes is chosen based on the length of the natural lashes. The longest lashes are (in most cases) placed in the center of the eye (over the pupil).

According to the natural lashes, the artificial lashes then become shorter toward the outer corner. This effect does not change the eye’s shape.

This extension effect suits every eye shape and can be done with any curl, thickness, curl type, and volume.

We recommend beginners start by offering this extension effect.

2. Doll Effect

The Doll Effect is a lash extension style that creates a doll-like appearance, making the eye look larger and more open.

The longest lashes are placed in the center of the eye, while the lash lengths at the outer corners are the same on both sides.

The Doll Effect is suitable for small eyes, hooded lids, uneven eyes, and Asian eye types.

This effect can also be done with various curls, curl types, and thicknesses.

3. Fox Effect

Currently the most popular lash shape among clients is the Fox Effect. It is characterized by particularly long lashes at the outer corner of the eye.

Consider the client’s eye shape for this effect, as it especially suits:

  • Women with almond-shaped eyes
  • Standard and large eyes
  • Eyes set close together

For the Fox Effect, it’s important to use slightly shorter lashes for the last 3–5 millimeters toward the outer corner.

4. Eyeliner Effect

The Eyeliner Effect, as the name suggests, is inspired by eyeliner and resembles a liner along the lash line.

This shape is perfect for anyone who wants a makeup-like look through lash extensions and prefers a natural lash appearance.

Essentially, the Eyeliner Effect is the same as the Fox Effect, but with shorter lashes.

Its uniqueness is that it uses shorter lengths (4 to 8 mm) almost across the entire eye, with lashes getting longer toward the outer corner.

The Eyeliner Effect is done with volume technique (2D and above) and is also suitable for lash densification.

5. Kim Effect (Kim Kardashian Style)

This lash extension style is named after Kim Kardashian and resembles strip lashes.

Lengths are not in sequence; longer lashes alternate with shorter ones.

In short, this effect is meant to look deliberately uneven and dramatic.

Most lashes for this effect can be up to 12 mm long, while the spikes can be 16–17 mm long.

We recommend making the spikes 3 mm longer than the rest for the ideal look.

6. Squirrel Effect

The Squirrel Effect is named after a squirrel’s bushy tail.

This lash extension shape gives a more natural look and can also cleverly hide certain aesthetic features of the client.

Its hallmark is that the longest lashes are placed under the natural arch of the eyebrow.

Recommend this look to clients with:

  • Eyes set close together
  • High-set eyebrows
  • Outer lashes that grow downward
  • Those wanting a cat-eye look (though it may not suit their eye shape)

Bonus: Wet Effect

This effect is meant to give the impression of wet lashes, as if the client just stepped out of the shower.

It is done only with volume technique (2D and up) and is also suitable for lash densification.

For the wet look effect, it’s important to place two, three, or even four lashes from the strip directly onto the natural lash without fanning them first.

The Wet Effect is compatible with any other shape, for example you can do a Fox-Wet Effect or Natural-Wet Effect.

You can adjust the intensity by varying how many lashes are placed on each natural lash.

Tip: For this effect you can apply primer, pre-treatment, and even lash coating to the tips of the lashes with a microbrush before you begin the extension process.

We’d like to point out that the lash extension shape is chosen individually in consultation between the client and the stylist, taking into account the client’s wishes. All these effects can be achieved with any length, curl, and thickness.

Therefore: even if a client requests the Fox Effect, it may not make sense to use it if their eyes are naturally set far apart.

So it is your task as a stylist to find the right effect for your clients’ eye shapes in harmony with their wishes!
